If you’re pulling a space heater out of storage as the weather gets colder, turn it over and check the label before plugging it in.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, or CPSC, announced a recall on October 29, 2026 involving about 338,800 DREO space heaters in the United States.
The affected heaters can overheat and ignite, creating fire and burn hazards.
DREO has received 17 reports of heaters igniting, including three reports of property damage and one report of a burn injury to a person’s hand.
But not every DREO space heater is affected.
The recall applies specifically to:
Model DR-HSH015 manufactured from April 2025 through January 2026.
How to tell whether your DREO heater is recalled
The most important information is on the label on the underside of the heater.
Check for:
- Model: DR-HSH015
- Manufacture date: 2025/04 through 2026/01
The manufacture date is printed in YYYY/MM format.
So, for example:
2025/04 → recalled range
2025/12 → recalled range
2026/01 → recalled range
If your heater is DR-HSH015 but has a manufacture date outside that range, do not automatically assume it is part of this particular recall.
DREO also identifies DR-HSH015 as the Whole-Room Heater 715.
What does the recalled heater look like?
CPSC describes the product as a black ceramic electric space heater measuring approximately 11.5 inches wide and 13 inches tall.
The heater comes with a remote control, and the DREO brand name appears on the front.
However, appearance alone is not enough.
The safest identification method is:
DREO → Bottom label → DR-HSH015 → Manufacture date 2025/04 through 2026/01.
Why is DREO recalling these heaters?
CPSC says the recalled heaters can overheat and ignite.
DREO has received:
- 17 reports of heaters igniting
- 3 reports involving property damage
- 1 reported burn injury to a hand
That means this is not a recall based solely on laboratory testing or a theoretical failure.
Actual ignition incidents have already been reported.
What should you do if your heater matches?
CPSC says consumers should stop using the recalled heater immediately.
If your unit matches the model and manufacture-date range:
- Stop using it.
- Unplug it.
- Register for the recall with DREO.
- Follow DREO’s destruction and photo instructions.
- Receive a free replacement heater.
Do not continue using the heater simply because yours has never overheated or caused a problem.
DREO specifically says consumers with an affected unit should stop using it even if it appears to operate normally.
Do not cut the cord before registering
The recall process includes destroying the recalled heater by cutting its electrical cord.
But first, follow DREO’s registration instructions.
DREO says the recall submission may require photographs showing:
- The product label with model, date code, and serial number
- The word “Recall” and a provided destruction code written on the product label
- The heater with its power cord cut
Because you need information from the heater for the claim, don’t destroy the label or throw the product away before completing the required documentation.
Do you need the receipt?
No.
DREO says consumers can participate in the recall even if they no longer have the original receipt.
What matters is that you have an affected heater and can provide the required product information from its label.
This is useful if you bought the heater months ago and no longer have the store receipt.
Where were the recalled heaters sold?
The recalled heaters were sold at Costco stores nationwide and online through several retailers, including:
- Dreo.com
- BestBuy.com
- Kohls.com
- Lowes.com
- QVC.com
- HomeDepot.com
- B2BRenew.com
- Costco.com
CPSC says they were sold from approximately September 2025 through October 2026 for about $70 to $110.
About 36,300 additional units were sold in Canada.
What is the remedy?
DREO is providing a free replacement space heater.
This is not a refund recall.
After DREO verifies the recall claim, the company says it will arrange shipment of the replacement heater.
DREO currently estimates delivery at approximately 10 business days after shipment, although actual timing can vary depending on address and carrier.
How to contact DREO
CPSC lists the following recall contact information:
- Phone: 833-820-0887
- Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–6 p.m. Eastern Time
- Email: spaceheater@realtimeresults.net
You can also go to DREO’s official website and select “Product Recalls” or use the company’s official recall registration page.
What if your DREO heater is another model?
DREO says this recall applies only to DR-HSH015 / Whole-Room Heater 715 units within the specified manufacture-date range.
Other DREO space-heater models and other DREO product categories are not included in this particular recall.
So don’t throw away another DREO heater simply because the brand name matches.
Check the exact model and manufacture date.
Why this recall matters more as colder weather arrives
Many space heaters sit unused through spring and summer.
When temperatures drop, owners may pull them out of closets, garages, or storage boxes and plug them in without checking for recalls.
That makes this a particularly useful time to inspect the label.
This is seasonal relevance, not evidence that searches or heater fires are suddenly increasing.
Don’t try to “test it one more time”
If your heater matches the recall, don’t plug it in again just to see whether it becomes unusually hot.
CPSC’s instruction is to stop using it immediately.
An electrical product can fail unpredictably even if it worked normally during previous use.
The recall remedy is a free replacement, so there is no safety benefit in continuing to test the affected heater.
General space-heater safety still matters
Even after replacing a recalled heater, normal space-heater precautions are important.
Keep portable heaters away from combustible materials such as bedding, curtains, clothing, and upholstered furniture.
Use the product according to the manufacturer’s instructions and avoid leaving a portable heater operating unattended.
But remember: normal safety practices do not make a recalled DR-HSH015 safe to continue using.
If your heater matches the recall, stop using it and complete the replacement process.
The SavingQueen takeaway
This recall takes less than a minute to check.
Turn your DREO heater over and look at the bottom label.
If you see:
Model DR-HSH015
and the manufacture date is:
2025/04 through 2026/01
then CPSC says:
Stop using → Unplug → Register the recall → Follow photo/destruction instructions → Get a free replacement.
Do not continue using it because it worked safely last winter.
With 17 reported ignition incidents already associated with the affected heaters, checking the label before your next use is worth the minute it takes.
