If you bought a Costway convertible high chair from Walmart, Target, or Costway.com, take a few minutes to check whether your chair is included in a new federal recall.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, or CPSC, announced a recall of about 3,332 Costway convertible high chairs on October 22, 2026.
The chairs do not contain a required passive restraint system. CPSC says a child can slip through the opening between the feeding tray and the seat, become trapped, or fall from the chair, creating a risk of serious injury or death.
Consumers should stop using the recalled high chairs immediately. Unlike some recent safety warnings where no remedy was available, Costway is offering affected customers a free replacement high chair.
How to identify the Costway high chair recall
This recall is a little different from many product recalls because there is no tracking information located on the chairs.
That means you cannot simply turn the chair over, find a model number, and compare it with a recall list.
Instead, CPSC identifies the recalled product by its design, colors, and purchase information.
The affected Costway high chairs are designed to convert into a separate table and chair set. They were sold in several color combinations, including:
- Purple and white
- Red and white
- Blue and white
- Brown and white
If your Costway chair converts into a small table-and-chair set and resembles the products shown in the official CPSC recall photos, check your purchase history next.
Where and when were the recalled chairs sold?
The recalled Costway convertible high chairs were sold at:
- Walmart stores nationwide
- Target stores nationwide
- Costway.com
CPSC says they were sold from May 2023 through July 2026 for approximately $84 to $100.
Because the chairs do not carry tracking information, an old Walmart, Target, or Costway receipt, online order history, or product photo may be particularly useful in determining whether your chair is affected.
Why are the Costway high chairs being recalled?
High chairs sold in the United States are subject to a mandatory federal safety standard.
CPSC says the recalled Costway chairs violate that standard because they do not have a required passive restraint system.
A passive restraint is intended to help prevent a child from sliding down through the space between the seat and the tray or front support.
Without adequate restraint, CPSC says a child can slip through that opening and become entrapped or fall.
Federal high-chair requirements cover several safety areas, including restraint systems, openings, structural integrity, stability, and tray or torso-support performance.
No injuries have been reported, but stop using the chair
As of the recall announcement, no incidents or injuries had been reported.
That does not mean owners should continue using the chair while waiting to see whether a problem develops.
A recall is intended to remove or correct a known safety risk before someone is injured. CPSC specifically tells consumers to immediately stop using the recalled high chairs.
How do you get the free replacement?
Costway is offering a free replacement high chair rather than a cash refund.
The process described by CPSC is:
- Stop using the recalled high chair.
- Contact Costway.
- Provide either a receipt or a photo of the product.
- Costway will provide a prepaid shipping label.
- Return the recalled chair to Costway using that label.
- After Costway receives the recalled chair, the company will send a replacement high chair at no charge.
The important difference from some recalls is that Costway wants the original product returned before the replacement is shipped.
What if you no longer have the receipt?
Not having the original receipt does not automatically prevent you from participating in the recall.
CPSC says consumers can provide a receipt or a photo of the product.
That option is particularly important here because the chairs themselves do not have tracking information.
Before contacting Costway, it may help to gather:
- A clear photo of the entire high chair
- Photos showing its color and convertible table/chair design
- Your Walmart, Target, or Costway purchase history if available
- An approximate purchase date
- Your original order number if you still have it
Providing clear documentation can make it easier for Costway to determine whether your chair is included.
Don’t keep using it while waiting for the replacement
If the high chair looks stable and your child has used it without a problem, it may be tempting to keep using it until the replacement arrives.
That is not what CPSC recommends.
The official remedy begins with immediately stopping use of the recalled chair.
Also, do not try to create your own restraint system or modify the chair as a substitute for the recall remedy. The free replacement is the corrective action provided through the recall.
Don’t confuse this recall with older Costway high chair recalls
Costway has been involved in other high-chair recalls, including recalls involving Babyjoy-branded products.
This October 2026 recall specifically concerns Costway convertible high chairs that convert into a table and chair set.
Because different Costway and Babyjoy products can look somewhat similar, use the current CPSC photos, product description, purchase dates, and retailer information rather than assuming that every Costway high chair is part of the same recall.

The SavingQueen takeaway
The most unusual part of the Costway high chair recall is that there is no tracking information on the product itself.
So don’t spend a long time looking for a model number that may not be there.
Instead, check these four things:
Convertible table/chair design → Color → Where you bought it → When you bought it.
If your chair appears to match, stop using it and contact Costway. You can provide a receipt or product photo, receive a prepaid return label, return the recalled chair, and receive a replacement high chair at no charge.
There have been no reported injuries, but the purpose of acting on a recall is to prevent one from happening.
